I recently had the privilege of attending an online virtual series focusing on women in leadership, moderated by Christine Edge. With her extensive experience in driving change and coaching, Christine provided valuable insights and support for women looking to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. This series, organised by Sullivan & Stanley – The Change Society, consisted of four enlightening sessions that delved into various aspects of personal and professional growth. As I reflect on my experience, I realise the immense value of such platforms in empowering women and fostering a supportive network.
Difficult conversations
One of my first takeaways from the sessions includes the power of preparation. One crucial lesson I learned was the significance of the SOAR Model. The framework involves listing your strengths, looking for opportunities, determining aspirations, and finally measuring your results. The model is a strategic planning tool that emphasises the importance of preparation when engaging in difficult conversations. By equipping ourselves with the necessary knowledge and anticipating potential challenges, we can navigate these conversations with confidence and achieve positive outcomes.
Taming the inner “critic”
Embracing the Role of CEO in our lives was another key learning outcome from the sessions. We all possess an inner critic, that nagging voice that often undermines our self-confidence. However, through this session, I discovered that I am the CEO of my own life. Recognising the presence of the inner critic allows us to acknowledge its concerns while consciously choosing to ignore its limiting beliefs. By taking control and asserting our authority, we can rise above self-doubt and forge ahead with determination.
Overcoming self-sabotage
In the series we explored how our own behaviours and choices can sometimes sabotage our progress. The SOAR model proved invaluable once again, helping us identify areas where we tend to hinder ourselves. Armed with this awareness, we can proactively make changes, break free from self-imposed limitations, and unlock our full potential.
Battling Imposter Syndrome
Embracing our superhero was one of my most valuable takeaways from the sessions. Imposter Syndrome is a common challenge faced by many high-achieving individuals, particularly women. This session shed light on the importance of self-care and self-reflection in combating this phenomenon. We learned the value of keeping a journal, seeking mentorship, finding a supportive buddy, and examining our own behaviours to cultivate a strong sense of self and authenticity.
Benefits of women empowering women
One of the most enriching aspects of the series was the opportunity to connect with like-minded women. Through engaging discussions, we discovered that the challenges we face are not unique to us alone, but common experiences shared by many. This realisation provided an instant boost, affirming that we are not alone in our journey.
Expanding the toolkit
Thanks to this series, I now possess a myriad of tools in my leadership toolkit. Armed with these new insights, I feel empowered not only to navigate my own path but also to support and uplift other women and men. The knowledge and experiences shared during these sessions have not only enhanced my professional capabilities but also helped forge lasting connections with inspiring individuals.
The Change Society’s Women in Leadership series has been a tremendous asset in fostering women’s empowerment and personal growth. The invaluable lessons from each session, coupled with the support and camaraderie of like-minded individuals, have left a lasting impact. By harnessing the power of preparation, embracing our roles as CEOs of our lives, overcoming self-sabotage, and battling Imposter Syndrome, we are equipping ourselves to achieve greatness. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment, where women’s voices are heard, and their potential is fully realised. Let us continue to uplift and empower one another on this remarkable journey.
